Walking the Boundary
Diptyh
76cm x 152cm
Acrylic and mixed media on stretched canvas ready to hang.
This diptych captures the contrast between the tangled chaos of branches and the serene flow of the river, reflecting the complexities and calmness of life. Inspired by my daily walks along the river bordering my property in Ferguson Valley, it conveys moments of light glinting through trees, shimmering water, and nature’s quiet rhythm. These walks, a source of reflection and grounding, shape my sense of identity and belonging, much like the river shapes its boundary.

In this diptych, I employed a layered mixed-media approach to create depth and texture. I used acrylic paint as the foundational medium, building on older acrylic works to add complexity. Oil sticks, charcoal, and pencil brought expressive linework and tonal variation. I applied the media using a variety of tools, including silicone wedges, palette knives, brushes, and rags, to achieve both precise and spontaneous marks. The result is a dynamic interplay of texture, color, and form, evoking the natural chaos and calm of the landscape.
Every care has been taken to show the artwork as accurately as possible with regard to size and colour. The image you see on line may show a difference due to variation between browsers, devices and screen settings.
